Verger owes its name to the Girona River, also known as the Verger River, on which the village is located - the river flows into the Punta de la Almadrava after the village. Verger resembles a green orchard crisscrossed by small forest paths and farmhouses. The oranges grown on the fertile land between the delta of the Girona River and the coastal Pego-Oliva marshes provide a reminder that the province of Valencia is not far away. Rice and vegetables are also grown - the area used to be a major raisin producer and the raisins were exported from the neighbouring port Dénia. The Safari Park on the road from El Verger to Pego can be toured by car.
